Nature’s Neighborhood brings together specimens found in nature and cultural objects that are inspired by and reflect the natural world.

NATURE’S NEIGHBORHOOD CASE #1

This case contains several natural specimens, including seashells, geological samples, leaves, the nest of a blue-winged warbler, and a trilobite fossil; and several human-made objects, including an Indian vajra, or skin scraper; an animal-themed matryoshka, or nesting dolls; a wooden bull figurine from Peru; and an Inuit soapstone carving of a seal.

NATURE’S NEIGHBORHOOD CASE #2

This case contains several natural specimens, including seashells, a geological sample, leaves, and the nest of a red-winged blackbird; and several human-made objects, including a wooden snail from Tanzania; a wooden warthog figure from East Africa; and a hippo figure carved out of soapstone from Kenya.

NATURE’S NEIGHBORHOOD CASE #3

This case contains several natural specimens, including seashells, a geological sample, leaves, and the nest of a wood thrush; and several human-made objects, including an animal-themed matryoshka, or nesting dolls; an Inuit soapstone figure of a pair of owls; a brass animal figure from Benin; and a wooden water buffalo fifure from China.

NATURE’S NEIGHBORHOOD CASE #4

This case contains several natural specimens, including a large seashell, a geological sample, leaves, the nest of a common grackle, and a giant shark tooth fossil; and several human-made objects, including an animal-themed matryoshka, or nesting dolls; a bronze elephant figure; a camel figure from Morocco; and a wooden lion figure from Botswana.
